Enclosure No. 2.
17
The Hon. Mr. McI: Messer,
Sir,
I trust you will excuse the liberty taken by
The
me in writing you regarding the future of the sons of the
late Divisional Inspector A. L. B. Gordon, Water Police Station. I their sole guardian and sister of the late
Divisional Inspector having received notification from the
Crown Agents to the effect that the pension for the elder
son Alex. has now ceased as from the 23rd December.
pension for the second son Robert expires on the 26th Novem-
ber of this year. The elder son has now begun an apprentice-
ship in the North of Scotland Bank Hanover Street Edinburgh
and during his probationary period has given every
satisfaction. His salary as an apprentice is totally inadequate to keep him in clothing board and lodging etc. as prices at the present are very high especially in our cities. The second boy is to get an opening in the Shell Mex. Co. a company affiliated with the Asiatic Petroleum Co. The office in Renfruo St. Glasgow. All being well. I expect
him to get a start in July or August of the present year.
As their father had subscribed to the Widows'
and Orphans' Pension Fund during his 25 years service I should be most grateful if you would use your influence by continuing the pension a few years longer in order to give them a chance to complete their apprenticeship as it is at this time money is most required and circumstances have
arisen which makes it very difficult for us to help them
and openings for boys are so hard to get that one has to
make a big effort to keep them.
Trusting
